LG Uplus announced on the 23rd that it has launched a 'Foreigners-Only Promotion Plan' that includes free international calls and roaming benefits for foreign customers residing in Korea. The strategy is to provide differentiated customer experiences by offering communication benefits needed by foreigners and focusing on targeting the foreign market.
The company explained that the seven types of postpaid plans launched exclusively for foreigners are the largest among domestic telecom companies. LG Uplus conducted a survey targeting foreigners residing in Korea and confirmed the demand for ample data and international call benefits to communicate with family and friends in their home country, as well as roaming benefits needed when visiting their home country.
The foreigner-exclusive plans launched through customer research are broadly configured from 37,000 KRW to 85,000 KRW per month, with enhanced international call free and roaming data benefits. Specifically, the seven types of plans are △Foreigner 5GB (37,000 KRW per month with 5GB, speed control at 400Kbps when exhausted) △Foreigner 9GB (47,000 KRW per month with 9GB, speed control at 400Kbps when exhausted) △Foreigner 14GB (55,000 KRW per month with 14GB, speed control at 1Mbps when exhausted) △Foreigner 31GB (61,000 KRW per month with 31GB, speed control at 1Mbps when exhausted) △Foreigner 80GB (66,000 KRW per month with 80GB, speed control at 1Mbps when exhausted) △Foreigner 150GB (75,000 KRW per month with 150GB, speed control at 5Mbps when exhausted) △Foreigner Unlimited (85,000 KRW per month with unlimited data).
Customers subscribed to the foreigner-exclusive plans are provided with up to 90 minutes of free international calls per month. Additionally, when customers subscribe to the 'Roaming Pass' service during visits to their home country or abroad, they are offered twice the amount of data. It is expected that foreign customers will be able to communicate with family and friends in their home country without cost burden in Korea and use data freely through roaming in their home country.
Customers holding a foreign registration card can subscribe to the exclusive plans through online or offline stores. As these plans are sold as promotions, subscriptions are only available until December 29.
In particular, LG Uplus is also conducting active marketing activities targeting foreign customers in their 20s and 30s residing in Korea for reasons such as studies. Foreign customers under the age of 34 can receive additional data ranging from a minimum of 4GB to a maximum of 60GB as a youth benefit when subscribing to the exclusive plans.
Additionally, LG Uplus plans to promote the foreigner-exclusive plans and additional data benefits through the student ambassador 'Youth Spirit' and provide convenience for foreign students to use communication services more easily through business agreements with universities such as Hanyang University, Inha University, and Kangwon National University.
Park Joon-soo, LG Uplus Device and Foreigner Business Manager, said, “As the domestic telecom market enters maturity, the foreign customer market is a new market with great growth potential,” and “In the future, we will introduce various services including exclusive plans to ensure foreign customers can feel true value and provide differentiated customer experiences.”
