‘Gyeonwoo and Seonnyeo’ Choo Young-woo, Possessed by Evil Spirit… Shocking Plot Twist

[Financial News] tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Gyeonwoo and Seonnyeo’ reached a shocking turning point in episode 9. The protagonist Bae Gyeon-woo (played by Choo Young-woo) is possessed by the evil spirit Bong-su, turning the story into a deep mystery and horror. Bae Gyeon-woo, who gained spiritual sight, breaks the warning of Mang Mudang (played by Lee Yeong-ran) to ‘not get involved with ghosts and not to see blood,’ and as a result, faces an irreversible crisis.
Park Seong-ah (played by Jo I-hyeon) senses something strange and interrogates Bae Gyeon-woo, but the answer she receives is a chilling one. "I devoured him." The moment Bong-su reveals his true nature, viewers held their breath.
Immediately after the broadcast, viewer reactions were heated. Episode 9 recorded an average nationwide rating of 4.6%, peaking at 5.3% (Nielsen Korea paid households standard), ranking first in its time slot. As the plot rapidly progressed, viewer immersion also reached its peak.
Meanwhile, in this broadcast, Yeom-hwa (played by Choo Ja-hyun) began to move with a dark aura. Targeting Park Seong-ah, she strengthens the power of the evil spirit Bong-su, putting Bae Gyeon-woo in danger. Holding onto the past, she reveals deep wounds amidst conflicts with Dongcheonjanggun (played by Kim Mi-gyeong). Yeom-hwa's confession, "Like me, who was alone and cursed…" causes a crack in Park Seong-ah's inner self.
Furthermore, the mysterious wooden box carried by Yeom-hwa was also unveiled. It was none other than the coffin of a deceased child. The story entangled with the sorrow of not being able to let go of the child explains why Yeom-hwa is consumed by curses and anger, evoking pity. The scene where Dongcheonjanggun ties a handkerchief around her hand as she cries out in despair, "I will curse even in death," left viewers heartbroken.
Meanwhile, Bae Gyeon-woo hides the fact that he has gained spiritual sight from Park Seong-ah and asks Mang Mudang to release the binding spell. Nevertheless, he stays by Park Seong-ah's side with a calm face, acting as if nothing has changed. But a trivial action reveals the truth. Park Seong-ah notices that he does not follow his usual routine during archery practice and becomes convinced that something is wrong. Eventually, she tearfully asks, "Where is the real Bae Gyeon-woo?"
To this, Bong-su coldly laughs and replies, "I devoured him." At that moment, it is implied that Bong-su has completely taken over Bae Gyeon-woo, and a shocking twist unfolds.
Has Bong-su completely taken over Bae Gyeon-woo's body? Or does Bae Gyeon-woo's consciousness still remain? The tension towards the conclusion is escalating.
