[Financial News] Actor Jo Jung-suk returns as a 'Zombie Dad' this time. The movie 'Zombie Daughter', which opens on the 30th, is a new concept human zombie comedy that combines Jo Jung-suk's comedy and paternal love. Following 'Exit' (2019) and 'Pilot' (2024), it promises another round of cheerful laughter in the summer theater.
The original is a webtoon of the same name that recorded 500 million cumulative views. It humorously and touchingly depicts the process of Jung-hwan (Jo Jung-suk), a wild animal trainer, taming and protecting his daughter who has become a zombie. For parents with middle school children, the sight of a child growling as a zombie may not be so unfamiliar. A daughter who can't communicate and runs to bite anyone she sees. But because she is his child, he cannot give up. Jung-hwan moves to a seaside village where his cheerful mother Bamsun (Lee Jung-eun) lives and begins to tame his daughter Sua (Choi Yu-ri).
Fortunately, Sua dances when she hears singer BoA's 'Number One' and flinches at her grandmother's back scratcher, retaining human memories. Thanks to this, Jung-hwan's 'Zombie Daughter Taming Project' gradually shows results.
The unpredictable reactions of the zombie daughter and Jung-hwan's struggles evoke cheerful laughter. A friend (Yoon Kyung-ho) is a reliable helper for Jung-hwan, and a first love (Jo Yeo-jeong) appears as an unexpected variable, adding tension and relaxation to the drama. In the latter part, an unexpected villain appears, and Jung-hwan's deep paternal love stimulates tears. The struggle of the father and daughter set against a rural village backdrop gradually converges into a family film with gentle emotions.
Jo Jung-suk leads the drama with humor and warmth, true to his real-life 'daughter fool' dad persona. New actress Choi Yu-ri, playing Sua, delivers a memorable performance by conveying complex emotions with just her eyes and gestures after becoming a zombie, without much dialogue. Lee Jung-eun, Jo Yeo-jeong, and Yoon Kyung-ho, all skilled actors, are solidly positioned in supporting roles.
And the true 'scene-stealer' of this movie is the cat 'Aeyongi'. The cat actor Aeyongi, selected through auditions, showcases its presence by recording a high laughter rate every time it appears. Opening on the 30th
