[Financial News] The trial date for President Lee Jaemyung's Ssangbangwool North Korea remittance case has also been postponed, suspending all five criminal trials against President Lee.
The Suwon District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Song Byunghoon) decided to defer the date at the trial preparation hearing for President Lee's case involving violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (bribery) on the 22nd. Deferral refers to changing, postponing, or continuing a date without specifying the next date.
The court stated, "The defendant is currently serving as the president and holds the position of representing the state as the head of state," and "To focus on the duties guaranteed by the Constitution and ensure the continuity of state affairs, we will designate the trial date later."
However, the trials for co-defendants Lee Hwayoung, former Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor for Peace, and Kim Seongtae, former chairman of Ssangbangwool Group, will proceed separately.
As a result, all five trials against President Lee have been halted. Previously, the dates for △Violation of the Public Official Election Act case (Seoul High Court) △Perjury Inducement case (Seoul High Court) △Daejang-dong, Wirye, Baekhyeon-dong, Seongnam FC case (Seoul Central District Court) △Private Use of Corporate Card case (Suwon District Court) were all changed to deferred.
The 'Ssangbangwool Group North Korea Remittance Allegation' involves President Lee, who was the Governor of Gyeonggi Province from January 2019 to January 2020, allegedly having former Vice Governor Lee and former Chairman Kim pay $5 million for the smart farm project and $3 million for the governor's visit to North Korea.
