Full-scale Discussion on Sharing Seized Items Among Special Prosecutors... Emphasis on the Necessity of Kim Gye-hwan's Arrest
[Financial News] The Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Team (Lee Myeong-hyeon Special Prosecutor) is in the process of sharing seized items with other special prosecutor teams. They have also received and secured investigation records related to the military prosecutor case that indicted Colonel Park Jeong-hoon, head of the Marine Corps Investigation Team.
Jeong Min-young, assistant special prosecutor for Chae Sang-byeong, stated at the regular briefing on the 22nd, "There is a need to share seized items as some of the investigation targets of the three special prosecutors overlap, so we are in discussions," adding, "It has been confirmed that another special prosecutor has obtained a search and seizure warrant for some of the seized items secured by the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor."
The Special Prosecutor Team for Internal and External Affairs (Cho Eun-seok Special Prosecutor) has obtained a warrant for seized items related to former National Security Office Director Cho Tae-yong, and the Special Prosecutor Team for Kim Geon-hee (Min Joong-ki Special Prosecutor) has obtained a warrant for seized items related to former Black Pearl Investment representative Lee Jong-ho. Assistant Special Prosecutor Jeong explained, "We plan to confirm the contents of the warrant and cooperate with the process." Former Director Cho was subject to a search and seizure related to the 'VIP Rage Theory,' and former representative Lee was subject to a search and seizure related to the 'Lobbying for Lim Seong-geun, former Marine Corps 1st Division Commander.'
The special prosecutor team has also received a case from the Ministry of National Defense related to Major Yeom Bo-hyeon (currently with the 9th Division of the Army), who was indicted without detention for insubordination charges against Colonel Park. Major Yeom is accused of writing false official documents. Assistant Special Prosecutor Jeong stated, "We requested the transfer from the Ministry of National Defense yesterday and have received the records," adding that the investigation team, including military prosecutors, is handling the case.
There was also mention of the possibility of investigating Joo Jin-woo, a member of the People Power Party (then Presidential Office Legal Secretary), who was known to have received a call from the Presidential Office number (02-800-7070) related to the 'VIP Rage Theory.' Assistant Special Prosecutor Jeong said, "There seems to be a need to verify the call details," but added, "It is not yet at the stage of coordinating a specific investigation schedule."
Previously, it was confirmed that Representative Joo received a call from the number in question and spoke for about 44 seconds on July 31, 2023, when former President Yoon Seok-yeol was reportedly enraged at a National Security Office meeting. The day before, former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop's side revealed that they had spoken with former President Yoon on the day of the rage theory, further spreading related suspicions.
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor team plans to emphasize the necessity of arresting former Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan by dispatching Assistant Special Prosecutor Lee Geum-gyu and prosecutors from the investigation team to the pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review) being conducted from 10:30 a.m. today. Given the circumstances of former Commander Kim's false statements in the National Assembly and court, they plan to highlight the possibility of evidence destruction and collusion with related parties.
The 'VIP Rage Theory' originated from suspicions that former President Yoon was enraged after receiving a report on the investigation results of the Chae Marine's death incident at a Presidential Office meeting on July 31, 2023. It is said that former Minister Lee Jong-seop instructed a media briefing and the suspension of the case's transfer to the police. The 'Lobbying for Lim Seong-geun' case involves figures from the 'Stylish Marine' KakaoTalk group chat, including key figures in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case, lobbying for the rescue of former Division Commander Lim.
