[Financial News] Jeju Air announced on the 22nd that it purchased and introduced its 6th B737-8 aircraft on the 19th. Over the past three months, the company has accelerated its fleet modernization by introducing one aircraft per month, totaling three aircraft consecutively. Jeju Air plans to continue expanding its fleet stably in the second half by purchasing and introducing two additional aircraft of the same model by the end of the year.
With the introduction of this new aircraft, Jeju Air's total number of aircraft has increased to 44 (42 passenger planes and 2 cargo planes). As a result, Jeju Air now owns 11 purchased aircraft out of a total of 44, including 5 B737-800NG models and 6 next-generation B737-8 models. The company has converted 25% of its entire fleet to purchased aircraft.
Jeju Air expects to reduce operating costs by about 14% annually by returning leased aircraft with expired contracts and purchasing new aircraft, thereby establishing a sustainable profit structure through changes in aircraft operation methods.
Jeju Air is efficiently operating routes by expanding existing routes and launching new ones based on newly expanded aircraft.
During the peak season of July to August, when travel demand surges, Jeju Air will increase flights on 12 routes, including Fukuoka, Weihai, Cebu, and Ulaanbaatar, to 74 times a week. Additionally, starting July 24, it will operate Incheon-Singapore 7 times a week, Busan-Shanghai 4 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) starting July 25, and Incheon-Guilin 4 times a week (Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday) starting October 1, striving to expand travel options and improve travel convenience for customers.
A Jeju Air official said, “We plan to continue stable aircraft introduction in the second half, achieving substantial growth along with fleet modernization,” adding, “We will secure long-term competitiveness through the operation of next-generation aircraft and efficient route management.”
