The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (Minister Yoon Ho-jung) announced on the 21st that it will provide an additional 5.5 billion won in special disaster management grants to Gwangju Metropolitan City, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, Jeollanam-do, and Gyeongsangnam-do, which were affected by heavy rain since the 16th.
Following the first payment of 2.5 billion won to Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheongnam-do on the 17th, additional support will be provided.
This additional support is an immediate measure following the President's directive at the heavy rain damage site in Sancheong, Gyeongnam today to "mobilize all resources and administrative power to urgently support the affected residents."
The allocated disaster relief funds are mainly used for the relief of disaster victims, emergency restoration of damaged facilities, and urgent safety measures to prevent secondary damage.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to consider additional support if the scale of damage increases as full-scale on-site investigations are conducted.
Minister Yoon Ho-jung urged, "Local governments should carefully ensure that disaster victims do not experience inconvenience in their daily lives and thoroughly implement urgent safety measures to prevent secondary damage," adding, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will do its utmost to support the early stabilization of the heavy rain damage areas."
