Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 22nd that they are conducting 'visiting crime prevention activities' from the 14th to prevent phishing and smishing damages related to the Livelihood Recovery Consumption Coupon.
The police decided to focus on deploying the Mobile Patrol Unit (4 units per day, 16 teams, 110 personnel) and community police officers (34 locations). They determined that new types of phishing crimes, such as no-show scams and self-reflection voice phishing, are economic murders threatening the lives of ordinary people, and have launched intensive crackdowns.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is conducting crime prevention classes targeting the elderly and youth who are vulnerable to phishing and smishing crimes, and is distributing flyers and promoting through large electronic displays. They are also explaining crime damage cases and guiding the application method for the Livelihood Recovery Consumption Coupon to residents of five jjokbangchon (shantytowns) who may be excluded from various information.
The police have set the two weeks from the 14th as a focused period for preventing related damages, expecting concentrated smishing scam damages, and plan to carry out comprehensive phishing damage prevention activities.
A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official said, "The subsidy application notification message does not include URLs or links, so such links should never be clicked," and "If you receive a suspicious text or suspect malicious app infection, please report it to 112 (Police Agency) or 118 (Korea Internet & Security Agency)."
