Kookmin University, Invalidates Kim Geon-hee's Doctorate Degree..."Does Not Meet Establishment Requirements"

[Financial News] Kim Geon-hee's doctorate degree has been canceled.
Kookmin University announced on the 21st that it has decided to invalidate Kim's admission and degree conferment at the Graduate School of Techno Design after deliberation and resolution by the Graduate School Committee.
Kim previously received a master's degree from Sookmyung Women's University Graduate School of Education in 1999 with a thesis on 'A Study on the Characteristics of Paul Klee's Paintings', and a doctorate from Kookmin University in 2008 with a thesis on 'A Study on the Development of Fortune Content Using Avatars: Focusing on Anita Development and Market Application'.
Both of these theses were suspected of plagiarism. Sookmyung Women's University has been reviewing the plagiarism of Kim's thesis since 2022 with the Research Ethics Integrity Committee. After more than three years, at the end of last month, it was finally judged as plagiarism, and the master's degree was canceled through the Graduate School Committee.
Kookmin University also reported that Kim's admission qualification for the doctorate degree was lost and immediately initiated the invalidation procedure.
Kookmin University stated, "The admission and degree conferment itself was deemed not to meet the establishment requirements, and the administrative procedures were completed accordingly," adding, "We will continue to do our best to maintain the trust and ethics of the academic community in accordance with laws and regulations."
As a result of this decision, both Kim's master's and doctorate degrees have been invalidated.
