【Financial News Yangyang=Kim Gi-seop Reporter】 Gangwon Province announced on the 21st that due to the increase in sea temperature, the appearance of harmful creatures such as jellyfish and sharks at beaches is increasing, and they will actively promote the installation of harmful creature prevention nets at major beaches in the province.
In particular, as a case of a blue shark being caught while fishing off the coast of Goseong recently occurred, the need for proactive measures to ensure the safety of summer vacationers is increasing.
Accordingly, the province invested 45 million won for the first time to install harmful creature prevention nets at 14 major beaches on the East Coast.
Initially, the plan was to install them at 10 locations in 6 cities and counties based on an installation cost of 15 million won per location, but with the active cooperation of fishermen, the actual unit price was significantly reduced, and nets were installed at a total of 14 locations.
Additionally, the saved budget of 37 million won will be used for additional net installations at beaches where they are needed.
In particular, Yangyang County reduced installation costs by recycling nets used by fishermen and having the fishing village association carry out the installation themselves, while Goseong County only supported the net production cost with the budget, and the net installation cost and boat rental fee were covered by the village's own budget, increasing budget efficiency.
This cooperation has contributed to improving fishermen's income by significantly reducing labor and equipment costs compared to professional construction, while also creating jobs and increasing the actual income of local fishermen by renting fishermen's boats and employing local labor.
Gangwon Province plans to further expand the cooperative model with local fishermen through this project and successfully lead the "2025~2026 Gangwon Visit Year" by creating the East Coast as a "clean and safe beach."
Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Province, said, "In a situation where harmful creatures such as jellyfish and sharks are appearing due to abnormal high temperatures, we plan to proactively respond to the changed environment," and "We hope that the fishermen, who know the local waters best, will directly manage the East Coast beaches, so please visit with peace of mind."
