[Financial News] "My wish is to find my lost sister before my mother passes away."
Kim Gu-young expressed his desire to find his sister Kim Ok-kyung (currently 62 years old) who went missing before he was born. Losing Ok-kyung is a lifelong regret for their mother Jeong Seong-sun (93).
Ok-kyung was separated from her family at the age of 1 on May 20, 1964, before she was even weaned. Jeong's sister sent Ok-kyung to a friend's foster family while Jeong was out earning money.
At that time, Jeong was making a living as a day laborer and her husband was away from home. Jeong's sister thought her sibling couldn't afford to raise her daughter, so she left Ok-kyung with a wealthy family in Jung-gu, Seoul, without revealing which family.
Jeong, who lost her daughter in an instant, fell into despair, stopped eating, and only shed tears. She begged her sister to tell her Ok-kyung's whereabouts.
Her sister, saying "We can't all starve to death," eventually revealed the address of the family where Ok-kyung was sent, but by then, they had already moved. Jeong's despair was indescribable.
Kim said, "Nowadays, you might be able to find an address at the police station, but in the 60s, it was practically impossible," adding, "My mother has lived with an unresolvable burden in her heart because of that incident."
After some time, Ok-kyung's father, Kim Ho-jin, returned home and was shocked to learn his daughter was missing. Ho-jin searched everywhere and even appeared on broadcasts seeking missing families, pleading, "Please find my daughter."
However, he never found Ok-kyung. Ho-jin would cry and express his inner turmoil whenever he drank. His last words before passing away 10 years ago were, "I need to see Ok-kyung at least once before I die."
Jeong has spent her life trying to find Ok-kyung. She has registered her DNA with the police, hoping to hear news of Ok-kyung. However, since Ok-kyung was separated from her family at such a young age, she might not even know she has a biological mother.
Kim knows Ok-kyung's physical traits: distinct double eyelids, sharp features, and unusually black hair. There was also a small Mongolian spot the size of a grain of rice on the inside of her left wrist, which likely disappeared as she became an adult.
Kim emphasized, "Although I have no memories of my sister, becoming a parent myself, I can somewhat imagine the heartache of losing a child," adding, "I want to relieve my mother, who has lived like a sinner due to the guilt of losing her daughter."
He continued, "I know the situation is not easy, but I have never given up on finding my sister," adding, "I hope she has been living happily until we meet someday."
