Launch of Customized R&D for Security Sites
360 Billion Won Invested Over 6 Years for 3 Projects

[Financial News] The police are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze traffic accidents and reconstruct crime scenes.
The National Police Agency announced on the 21st that it held a launch meeting for new projects under the 'Customized R&D for Security Sites (Police Lab 3.0)'.
The Police Lab is an R&D project where citizens, public institutions, and researchers identify and demonstrate problems in security sites. The 3.0 project will invest a total of 36 billion won from this year until 2030, with a 1:1 matching fund from the National Police Agency and the Ministry of Science and ICT.
This year, three projects selected through preliminary verification research will begin.
The AI-based traffic accident analysis system synthesizes fragmented information such as black boxes and site photos to recreate the situation at the time of the accident in a three-dimensional form. The AI-based crime scene 3D reconstruction technology detects crime clues that might have been missed and supports on-site investigation.
The lightweight mixed-type protective equipment project for face and neck includes the development of guards and protective fabrics, and the establishment of Korean protective standards. The need to strengthen protective equipment is increasing as there have been 2,082 cases of police officers being unexpectedly attacked at the scene over the past five years.
Previous projects have developed and deployed systems such as the △Visible 112 Emergency Reporting Support System △Smartphone Fingerprint Identification System △112 Precision Search System for field use.
Juwon Choi, Director of the Future Security Policy Bureau of the National Police Agency, said, "We will strive to integrate rapidly advancing technology into security sites to ensure public safety and foster the security industry ecosystem."
