【Financial News Gwangyang=Hwang Taejong Reporter】Jeollanam-do Gwangyang City is receiving praise for providing 1 million won as a 'Pregnancy Celebration Allowance' to pregnant women starting this year.
According to Gwangyang City on the 21st, the 'Pregnancy Celebration Allowance' is intended to promote the health of pregnant women and fetuses and to create a happy pregnancy and childbirth environment.
Previously, 200,000 won was provided in cash for transportation for prenatal check-ups, but the support range has been expanded to reflect various needs of pregnant women, such as health management and maternity wear purchases, and the amount has been significantly increased to 1 million won, the highest level nationwide.
The city started accepting applications from May and June for pregnant women who confirmed their pregnancy at the beginning of this year and reached 20 weeks of pregnancy.
The support is available to pregnant women who confirmed their pregnancy after January 1, 2025, and must have been registered as residents in Gwangyang for more than six months as of the application date. Applications can be made from 20 weeks of pregnancy to within one year after childbirth, and those who moved in after childbirth are excluded from the support.
The allowance is provided as mobile local currency 'chak' and is limited to use within Gwangyang City.
For more details, please contact the Birth Support Team at Gwangyang City Health Center.
The city expects this system implementation to promote local consumption and contribute to forming a virtuous cycle structure in the local economy.
Hwang Yeongsuk, Head of the Birth Health Department of Gwangyang City, said, "Gwangyang City aims to create a 'city where you want to live for a lifetime' from the fetal stage to old age, by building and advancing a life welfare platform that guarantees the entire life densely and thickly," adding, "This system is a key policy to strengthen the fetal stage sector."
She continued, "The health of pregnant women and fetuses is an investment in the future of our entire society," and "We will spare no administrative support to ensure all pregnant women can have a stable pregnancy period."
