Additional search and seizure for further forensic work on evidence
[Financial News] The special prosecutor team for Kim Geon-hee (Min Jung-gi special prosecutor) has launched a second search and seizure of the Unification Church in relation to the 'Geonjin Beopsa solicitation allegations'.
The special prosecutor team is conducting an additional search and seizure of the Unification Church's Seoul headquarters located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 21st.
This is the second search and seizure following the one on the 18th. The forensic work on the evidence obtained during the first search and seizure has not been completed, necessitating this additional search and seizure.
Jeon Seong-bae, known as Geonjin Beopsa, is suspected of receiving a diamond necklace and Chanel bag for 'Mrs. Kim's gift' from Yoon Young-ho, the global head of the Unification Church, between April and August 2022, and delivering them to Mrs. Kim. The solicitation content included support for the Unification Church's Mekong River development project in Cambodia, the acquisition of YTN by the Unification Church, the hosting of the UN's 5th office in Korea, and an invitation to the presidential inauguration. Before the case was transferred to the special prosecutor team, Jeon claimed during the prosecution's investigation that he did receive the items but lost them all.
Yoon was scheduled to be investigated by the special prosecutor team from the morning of the previous day but did not appear, resulting in the failure of the summons investigation. The special prosecutor team explained, "Yoon's side unilaterally submitted a request for postponement without separate schedule coordination with the special prosecutor," and "the special prosecutor will handle it as non-compliance with the summons according to the principle."
