Sam-il PwC stated on the 21st in the report 'The Era of Agents, AI Gets Wings' that "AI agents are emerging as a bridge from the current 'conversational AI' to 'physical AI' such as autonomous vehicles and humanoids," adding that "in Korea, cloud companies, telecommunications companies, and major platform companies are entering the AI agent market." It continued, "Overseas, companies like Anthropic and OpenAI are developing general-purpose agent models that perform various tasks, while specialized models in specific fields, such as Google's coding AI agent and Amazon's shopping AI agent, are also being released."
The report also suggested that domestic companies, which have limited experience in developing large-scale language models, could secure competitiveness in the AI agent market by developing specialized models in specific fields rather than general-purpose models. It particularly mentioned that a strategy for developing specialized agents in the medical, beauty, and manufacturing sectors, where Korea has strengths, is desirable.
Additionally, the report foresaw demand creation opportunities for 'Guardian Agents,' automated control technologies that support the safe use of AI. It further emphasized, "If highly autonomous agents are introduced into the industry, the potential damage from malfunction or misuse could be very large," and stressed the importance of developing technologies that observe, track, and adjust or block AI actions when necessary.
It also advised preparing for future AI services to be mounted on physical hardware like humanoids. To achieve this, it seems necessary to establish a cooperative system with major companies in the robot value chain to explore the integration of AI and hardware in advance.
Lastly, the report pointed out, "We should not neglect technological independence by excessively relying on overseas AI foundation models," and advised that the development of proprietary AI base technologies for achieving 'Sovereign AI' should also be pursued in parallel.
Jae-guk Jeong, Sam-il PwC's Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) Industry Leader (Partner), said, "In the era of AI transformation accelerated by AI agents, AI sovereignty is an advanced language representing the nation and competitiveness," adding, "We must cultivate future competitiveness through proactive investment with a long-term perspective." Detailed information on the report can be found on the Sam-il PwC website.
