[Financial News] The Metropolitan Area Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that it plans to approve the basic plan for the 'Songpa Hanam Line Metropolitan Railway', an extension project of Seoul Subway Line 3, on the 22nd.
The Songpa Hanam Line is a key railway line for the metropolitan transportation improvement measures in the Hanam Gyosan District, a 3rd new town. The project aims to open in 2032 with a total project cost of 1.8356 trillion won.
The total length of the Songpa Hanam Line is 11.7 km, and it is a metropolitan railway line that extends the current Seoul Subway Line 3 Daehwa~Ogeum section to Hanam City Hall Station (transfer to Seoul Line 5). Stations will be constructed in a total of 6 places, including 1 place in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, and 5 places in Gam-il and Gyosan Districts in Hanam City, Gyeonggi-do, and the same type of trains as the existing Line 3 will be operated.
The Songpa Hanam Line is expected to alleviate the chronic traffic congestion in Hanam City, which has relied on the Hanam Extension Line of Line 5 and 'Misa-daero→Olympic-daero', and function as a key transportation axis connecting the eastern part of Seoul and Gyeonggi-do.
In particular, due to the nature of the line passing through the existing city center and two large-scale residential districts, it is expected to have the greatest effect on reducing commuting time. Upon opening, travel time from Hanam Gyosan to Gangnam Express Bus Terminal can be reduced by 30 minutes.
Additionally, it will be possible to travel from Yangjae to Gyodae to the Express Bus Terminal without transfers, and it will be connected to Subway Lines 5, 8, 9, GTX, SRT, etc., serving as a central axis of metropolitan transportation.
Kim Su-sang, head of the Metropolitan Area Transportation Headquarters, said, "Following the recent approval of the basic plans for the Goyang Eunpyeong Line and the Gangdong Hanam Namyangju Line related to the 3rd new town, the approval of the Songpa Hanam Line basic plan has accelerated the construction of metropolitan transportation facilities for the 3rd new town," and "We will actively support the project to ensure it opens without delay by 2032, and strive to secure a connected transportation network, including buses and roads, to minimize transportation inconvenience for new town residents."
