[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating showed a decline for the first time since his inauguration. Consequently, the approval rating of the ruling Democratic Party also fell.
According to the Realmeter poll commissioned by Energy Economy News released on the 21st, the positive evaluation of President Lee's state affairs performance was 62.2%, down 2.4 percentage points from the previous week.
President Lee's approval rating had been on the rise. It started at 58.6% in the first survey after his inauguration and steadily increased, reaching 64.6% the previous week. However, it has declined for the first time in this survey.
The Democratic Party's approval rating also fell, with the drop being twice that of President Lee's. The Democratic Party's approval rating was recorded at 50.8%, down 5.4 percentage points from the previous week.
The pattern of the Democratic Party's approval rating followed the same upward trend as President Lee's, peaking at 56.2% the previous week. However, it has now declined along with President Lee in this survey.
The decline in support for the government and the ruling party appears to be influenced by strong criticism of the nominees for the Minister of Education Lee Jin-sook and Minister of Gender Equality and Family Kang Sun-woo, as well as disasters caused by record heavy rains.
In response, President Lee abruptly withdrew the nomination of Lee Jin-sook the previous day, and the Democratic Party postponed the ongoing party convention to focus on flood recovery support.
The approval rating of the main opposition party, the People Power Party, slightly increased amid the decline in support for the government and the ruling party. It rose by 3.1 percentage points from the previous week to 27.4%. It had been declining since President Lee's inauguration, hitting a low of 24.3% the previous week before rebounding.
Meanwhile, the cited survey on the president's state affairs performance was conducted from the 14th to the 18th, targeting 2,514 people nationwide using a wireless automatic response method, with a margin of error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The party approval rating survey was conducted from the 17th to the 18th, targeting 1,003 people nationwide using a wireless automatic response method, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
