Burst of Large Water Supply Pipe in Ulsan Due to Heavy Rain... Emergency for Companies and Schools

【Financial News Ulsan=Choi Su-sang Reporter】 Ulsan City is focusing on emergency water supply and restoration work for the six towns in the western region of Ulju-gun, which are experiencing water outages due to the damage of a large water supply pipe caused by heavy rain.
According to Ulsan City, a maximum of 332mm of heavy rain fell over the past three days, damaging a 900mm diameter water supply pipe that connects from the Cheonsang Water Purification Plant in Beomseo-eup, Ulju-gun to the western region of Ulju-gun on the 19th. As a result, water supply to six areas, including Eonyang, Samnam, Samdong, Sangbuk, Dudong, and Duseo, was completely suspended from 10 a.m. on the 20th. Approximately 35,000 households and 68,000 residents live in this area.
The city sent out a disaster warning text at 7:46 a.m. on this day to notify the residents of the water outage and is concentrating administrative power to minimize inconvenience to citizens by activating the Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters and starting restoration work in earnest.
Until restoration, a total of 39 water supply vehicles, including support from the fire department, local governments, Hyundai Motor Company, and Hyundai Heavy Industries, are being mobilized to supply living water to residents by designated dispatch to apartment complexes and residential areas.
60,000 bottles of water will be supplied first to town offices, apartment complexes, and community centers, and if the water outage continues, unlimited bottled water will be provided.
Additionally, city officials are being urgently deployed to the field in teams of two to directly distribute bottled water and check for resident inconvenience to minimize additional damage and inconvenience.
Support for the industrial sector is also underway. Real-time situations are being shared with local companies like Samsung SDI and Ottogi that require industrial water, and proactive measures are being taken based on their requests. 
If the water outage continues until next week, discussions with the education office are underway to prevent a school meal suspension crisis.
An official from Ulsan City stated, “We will mobilize all administrative power to reduce resident inconvenience and expedite the normalization of tap water in preparation for a prolonged water outage.”
Meanwhile, Ulsan City has identified a leak occurring at a point near Sayeon Bridge in Beomseo-eup along the Taehwa River where the water supply pipeline is installed. It is presumed that part of the pipeline was damaged due to increased flow and velocity of the Taehwa River caused by heavy rain. Currently, work is underway to replace the damaged pipeline after damming the river. The restoration is expected to be completed by the afternoon of the 21st.
