Departing on the 22nd... Aiming to Strengthen Strategic Partnership and Korea-ASEAN Cooperation
[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung will dispatch Kim Byung-joo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Kim Young-chun, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, as presidential envoys to Canada and Malaysia, respectively, on the 22nd.
Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated in a written briefing on the 20th, "Our government is dispatching presidential envoys to major countries to announce the return of democratic Korea to the international community and to explain our national philosophy and foreign policy."
The Canadian delegation, led by Representative Kim Byung-joo, will stay in Canada from the 22nd to the 27th, along with Representatives Maeng Sung-kyu and Kim Joo-young. They plan to exchange views on security, defense, and energy cooperation, as well as deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries through meetings with key Canadian government officials. The delegation also plans to deliver a personal letter from the President.
The Malaysian delegation, led by former Minister Kim Young-chun, will be joined by Representatives Nam In-soon and Yoon Geon-young. They will meet with key figures from the Malaysian government and parliament from the 22nd to the 25th. The discussions will focus on strengthening the strategic partnership between Korea and Malaysia, as well as practical cooperation in trade, investment, green transition, digital, and defense sectors.
Particularly, considering Malaysia's role as the ASEAN chair this year, strengthening Korea-ASEAN cooperation will be a key agenda item.
The Presidential Office stated, "We are also preparing to dispatch envoys to other major countries sequentially," adding that "additional announcements will be made as soon as consultations with the target countries are completed."
