[Financial News] Former People Power Party presidential candidate and former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo officially declared his candidacy for the People Power Party convention on the 20th, stating, "I will become the party leader to stop the rampage of the Lee Jae-myung regime and lead the liberal democracy of the Republic of Korea to greater heights by innovating the People Power Party."
Former Minister Kim held a press conference at the central party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on this day and stated, "I, Kim Moon-soo, will innovate the People Power Party into a party that fights and wins for the people," announcing this intention.
Former Minister Kim said, "I have spent time in deep contemplation and reflection on not properly fulfilling the will of the people to normalize the Republic of Korea and revive the economy and people's livelihoods in the presidential election," and "I decided to run to set our party straight in the crisis where the foundation of the free Republic of Korea is threatened and to regain the trust of the people," he opened the door.
He continued, "Under Lee Jae-myung's one-man dictatorship, the Republic of Korea is no longer a democratic republic," criticizing, "Lee Jae-myung's totalitarian dictatorship is ignoring the opposition by dominating the National Assembly and engaging in legislative rampage, and the executive branch has fallen to become a pawn of Lee Jae-myung's dictatorship. Even the judiciary is corrupt and politicized, busy watching the eyes of the Lee Jae-myung regime."
Former Minister Kim declared, "I will fight for liberal democracy and a market economy in the Republic of Korea with my life," and promised, "I will restore the People Power Party as a strong opposition party." He also promised, "If I become the party leader, I will actively form an 'Emergency Human Rights Protection Legal Team' to protect the unjustly victimized," while stating, "Political investigations like the 'Three Major Special Prosecutions (Insurrection, Kim Geon-hee, Marine Corps Casualty)' are plastering the news every day."
Regarding the economic situation and legislative issues since the inauguration of the Lee Jae-myung government, he pointed out, "Bills that stifle corporate investment are passing one after another in the National Assembly, and the voices of strong unions are growing louder," and "They are appeasing the youth by not providing job opportunities and distributing unemployment benefits and pocket money."
Regarding the recent controversy surrounding the confirmation hearings for ministerial candidates, he raised his voice, "In a normal country, those with criminal charges would not even dare to hold public office, yet they are entering high-ranking positions without proper verification even at this moment," expressing only lamentation.
Regarding recent international affairs and the government's foreign and security policies, he said, "The once strong Korea-U.S. alliance shows signs of cracking, and the Lee Jae-myung regime's pro-China and pro-North Korea policies are gradually revealing themselves." Former Minister Kim claimed, "President Donald Trump is not even arranging a summit meeting with President Lee," and "'Lee Jae-myung Passing' has become a daily occurrence on the international diplomatic stage."
Former Minister Kim pledged to create a 'strong opposition party that will save the collapsing Republic of Korea.' He emphasized, "Only a strong opposition party can protect liberal democracy and the lives of the people," and "I will transform into a party that stops the tyranny of the Lee Jae-myung regime, protects the lives of the people, and safeguards liberal democracy."
Regarding the direction of party innovation currently being discussed within the party, he proposed △strengthening party democracy through expanded bottom-up nominations and party member voting △practical policy opposition party △transition to a national party △a fighting party through healing divisions △strengthening party member education and growth of the Yeouido Institute as pledges.
Former Minister Kim plans to visit the flood-stricken area in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, as his first schedule for running for party leader.
Meanwhile, the People Power Party convention is confirmed to be held on the 22nd of next month at Osco in Cheongju, Chungbuk. Representatives Ahn Cheol-soo and Cho Kyung-tae, as well as former representatives Yang Hyang-ja and Jang Sung-min, have declared their candidacy. Former representative Han Dong-hoon and representative Jang Dong-hyuk are also reportedly considering running.
