[Financial News] The briefing on the 'Engine Detailed Investigation Results' announced by the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Committee (Sajowi) has been canceled. This is because the bereaved families opposed the meeting due to non-disclosure of data and lack of evidence.
Kim Yujin, the representative of the 12.29 Muan Airport Jeju Air Airplane Disaster Bereaved Families Association, criticized, "For the past 7 months, we have requested information disclosure through pre-inquiry letters and the media to Sajowi, but each time it was not disclosed citing international regulations," adding, "Today, they suddenly claim to be a transparent Sajowi and announce the results, but again, only the conclusion remains and the evidence for the process cannot be disclosed."
He continued, "When a position is presented, various supporting materials must be attached, and the bereaved families must be convinced that this result is inevitable," requesting, "Please disclose the clear facts of how the investigation was conducted and what matters can serve as evidence."
The bereaved families stated that international experts and committee members from various countries participated in the detailed engine investigation conducted in France, and demanded the disclosure of the investigation report, but it was refused. They also claimed that only 4 minutes and 7 seconds of control records were disclosed, and the situation before the accident was not disclosed at all.
Finally, they requested a public hearing. Representative Kim appealed, "Currently, there are still concrete structures at 6 airports nationwide, so it wouldn't be surprising if a second Jeju Air disaster happened today," adding, "We hope that the investigation report and interim report will be transparently disclosed through a public hearing."
Hwang Pil-kyu, a lawyer from the Public Interest and Human Rights Law Foundation Gonggam, representing the bereaved families, emphasized regarding the cancellation of the briefing, "From the victims' perspective, the explanation is insufficient, and it seems to shift all responsibility to the dead bird and pilots," adding, "The investigation should be meticulous and cautious in every expression, but only careless results were announced, increasing the distrust of the bereaved families."
Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Sajowi was scheduled to announce the results of the joint detailed engine investigation of the Jeju Air airplane crash that occurred at Muan Airport on December 29 last year, with Chairman Kwon Jinhoe and Investigation Director Lee Seung-yeol attending at 3 PM that day. However, the briefing was abruptly canceled after the bereaved families' backlash grew during a preliminary briefing held an hour earlier.
