[Financial News] Jeong Cheong-rae, the Democratic Party candidate for party leader, won the first primary in Chungcheong, the first contest of the 8·2 National Convention, by securing 62.77% of the votes from the rights party member electorate.
The Democratic Party announced the results of the rights party member vote at the joint speech session for the first national primary region, Chungcheong (Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam, Chungbuk), held at the central party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 19th.
The number of rights party member electors in Chungcheong was 108,802, with 55,988 valid voters, resulting in a turnout of 51.46%.
Candidate Jeong recorded a vote rate of 62.77% (35,142 votes), while candidate Park Chan-dae recorded 37.23% (20,846 votes).
Initially, the Democratic Party planned to hold an on-site tour primary in Daejeon on this day, but due to severe nationwide flood damage, the method was changed to an online joint speech session at the central party headquarters in Yeouido.
After the candidates' policy presentations, the Democratic Party concluded the online voting of the electorate and announced the ballot results.
The reflection ratio of the party leader electorate is 15% for delegate votes, 55% for rights party members, and 30% for the general public. However, in regional tour primaries, only the results of the rights party member vote are disclosed.
The results of the delegate and general public votes, excluding rights party members, will be announced on the day of August 2nd, after the national tour is completed.
