Samsung Electronics' recently released foldable smartphone 'Galaxy Z7' series is currently in pre-order sales, and it appears that the Galaxy Z Fold7 is enjoying more popularity than the Galaxy Z Flip7. This is the first time that the Fold is more preferred than the Flip since the launch of the Galaxy Z series. It is evaluated that the convenience has been significantly increased as the thickness when folded has been reduced to nearly half compared to the initial model.
Fold7 vs Flip7 Sales Ratio '6 to 4'
According to the telecommunications industry on the 20th, the pre-sales for Galaxy Z Fold·Flip7, which started on the 15th, are surpassing the previous models. As a result, attention is focused on whether it will break the record of 1.02 million units of the Galaxy Z5 series, which recorded the highest pre-sales volume in the Galaxy Z series. The pre-sales volume of the Galaxy Z6 series released last year was 910,000 units. In particular, the pre-sales ratio of Fold7 and Flip7 is notable at 6 to 4. Last year, the ratio of Fold6 and Flip6 was 4 to 6, and the year before, the ratio of Fold5 and Flip5 was 3 to 7, showing a significantly different trend. Considering that the Fold7 is priced at 2,373,900 won, an increase of 149,600 won compared to the previous model for the 256GB version, while the Flip7 remains unchanged at 1,485,000 won, this is a surprising figure.
Several reasons are cited for the increased preference for the Fold. The thickness when folded has been made slim to the level of a regular phone, greatly enhancing convenience, and consumers' preference for large screens has increased. The AI features have also been enhanced, and Samsung Electronics is focusing on promoting the Fold7.
Thickness and Weight Both on a Diet
Samsung Electronics is paying more attention to the Fold7 than the Flip7 in its recent marketing, including the Galaxy Unpacked event. This is because the Fold7 has addressed the biggest drawbacks of the Fold series, which were thickness and weight. When folded, its thickness is 8.9mm, not much different from a typical bar-type smartphone, and when unfolded, the thickness is 4.2mm, about half that of a regular smartphone. The weight is 215g, 24g less than the previous model, making it lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra (218g).The manufacturer Samsung Electronics and the three major telecommunications companies have been focusing on pre-order customers since the 15th. Samsung Electronics is offering a 'Double Storage' benefit, upgrading the storage capacity to the 512GB model for free to customers who pre-order the Fold7 and Flip7 256GB models. Customers who pre-order the Fold7 512GB model can receive the 1TB model by paying an additional 237,600 won, while KT is upgrading the 512GB model to 1TB without additional payment, further supporting the Fold7. As manufacturers and telecommunications companies engage in aggressive marketing, the industry sees a high possibility that the pre-sales performance of the Galaxy Z7 series will surpass the record of 1.02 million units of the Galaxy Z5 series. As pre-orders end and official sales begin on the 22nd, the competition among telecommunications companies to attract customers is expected to become even fiercer with the abolition of the Mobile Device Distribution Improvement Act.
