Apple's ultra-slim smartphone 'iPhone 17 Air', which will be unveiled this September, is expected to have a battery capacity of less than 3000 milliampere-hour (mAh).
On the 18th (local time), Chinese IT tipster (information leaker) Instant Digital recently shared this outlook through his Weibo. However, he added that thanks to the new adaptive power mode of iOS26, there will be no problem with daily use.
Previously, other rumors also suggested that the battery capacity of the iPhone 17 Air would be limited to 2800mAh. The last time an iPhone had a battery capacity of less than 3000mAh was some models of iPhone 12 and iPhone 13. The battery capacity of the latest model, iPhone 16, is 3561mAh.
Ultimately, it seems that Apple decided to significantly reduce the battery capacity to make the iPhone 17 Air as thin as possible. Apple is known to have determined through internal testing that the user ratio who can use the iPhone 17 Air all day without charging will be about 60-70%. In contrast, for other iPhone 17 series models, this ratio is expected to reach 80-90%.
Previously, Samsung Electronics equipped the ultra-slim model 'Galaxy S25 Edge', which is 5.8mm thick, with a 3900mAh battery. Although the capacity is 100mAh less than the basic Galaxy S25 model, it is receiving evaluations that the battery performance is beyond expectations, drawing attention to whether Samsung Electronics will win in the slim phone competition.
