[Financial News] Mr. Jeon, the CEO of Sungji Construction and a current lawyer, who delayed employee wages of about 5 billion won after acquiring Sungji Construction, will stand trial.
Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office Public Investigation Division 3 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Tae-hoon) announced on the 18th that Mr. Jeon and Mr. Choi, the chairman of Sungji Construction, were indicted without detention for violating the Labor Standards Act and the Employee Retirement Benefit Guarantee Act.
Mr. Jeon and Mr. Choi are accused of delaying wages of about 52 billion won for 58 employees of Sungji Construction. The prosecution received complaints from the affected workers and took over the case from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, conducting account tracking and other investigations. On May 19, the prosecution requested an arrest warrant for Mr. Jeon, but it was dismissed by the court.
A prosecution official stated, "We will continue to strictly punish those who delay wages in cooperation with the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and do our best to recover the damages for workers whose livelihoods are threatened by wage delays."
