Plan to Reapply for Arrest Warrant for Former Chairman Jo Seong-ok, Whose Warrant Was Dismissed
[Financial News] The special prosecutor team of Kim Geon-hee (Min Jung-gi special prosecutor) plans to summon Ryu Geung-seon, the CEO of Kakao Mobility, instead of Kim Beom-soo, the founder of Kakao, for the investigation of the Butler Gate case.
Oh Jeong-hee, the special prosecutor assistant, stated on the 18th, "Considering various circumstances of Kakao, which was coordinating the summons related to the Butler Gate, we plan to summon CEO Ryu Geung-seon for questioning at 10 a.m. on the 21st." It was reported that founder Kim conveyed his intention not to attend due to health reasons.
The special prosecutor team is expected to question CEO Ryu about the investment background and circumstances of Be My Car (IMS Mobility), founded by 'Butler' Kim Ye-seong, and whether First Lady Kim Geon-hee was involved.
The special prosecutor team detected systematic actions by employees of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport regarding the 'Yangpyeong Expressway Route Change Suspicion.' Organizational sharing and response actions centered around Kim, the head of the Road Policy Division of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, were discovered. The special prosecutor team summoned a related officer the previous day to investigate the circumstances, and if it is determined that this action obstructs the duties of the special prosecutor, they plan to investigate. Oh, the special prosecutor assistant, said, "We are also reviewing whether higher-ups, including the director, were involved."
Additionally, the special prosecutor team was aware of the actions of Kim Seon-kyo, a member of the People Power Party, and Kim Hee-guk, a former member of the People Power Party. Although Representative Kim Seon-kyo was not a member of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, he shared investigation situations through an assistant, and it was confirmed that Representative Kim Hee-guk met with a Road Policy Division employee at the beginning of this month when the special prosecutor team began the investigation. The special prosecutor team plans to decide whether to initiate an investigation for obstruction of investigation after conducting its own investigation and review.
The special prosecutor plans to reapply for an arrest warrant for Jo Seong-ok, a former chairman and suspect in the 'Sambu Construction Stock Manipulation Suspicion,' whose arrest warrant was dismissed the previous day, after a supplementary investigation. They also requested the Ministry of Justice to transfer Jo Won-il, the son of the former chairman, who is imprisoned in Hongseong Prison due to the Lime Fund case, to Seoul Southern Detention Center for investigation next week.
The special prosecutor team aims to find links between Jo, the former chairman, First Lady Kim, and Lee Jong-ho, the former CEO of Black Pearl Investment, by investigating Jo. Although Jo, the former chairman, was scheduled to undergo a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review), it appears that Vice Chairman Lee Ki-hoon, who seems to have fled, will be subject to a wanted notice and prompt arrest procedures.
Among the companies that invested in Kim Ye-seong's company, the special prosecutor team plans to complete the summons investigation of the remaining five companies, excluding HS Hyosung, Kakao Mobility, Korea Securities Finance, and Kiwoom Securities, starting on the 23rd. Yoon Jae-hyun, the CEO of Chamsun Food, will be summoned for investigation at 10 a.m. on the 22nd to investigate the ownership relationship of Innovest.
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor team conducted a search and seizure from the morning to investigate the 'Geonjin Monk Gate,' targeting the Unification Church and Gwon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party. The special prosecutor team conducted a search and seizure of over 10 locations, including △Cheongjeonggung and other offices within the Cheonwon Complex of the Unification Church in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province △Peace TV, a broadcasting station owned by the Unification Church △The headquarters of the Korean Association of the Unification Church in Yongsan-gu, Seoul △The residence of Mr. Yoon, the former head of the Unification Church World Headquarters △The office and residence of Representative Gwon Seong-dong of the People Power Party in the National Assembly Member's Office and Gangneung Office. The charges against them include bribery under the Special Act. The special prosecutor team has been increasing the pressure by conducting an all-out search and seizure after searching the National Police Agency on the 8th for the investigation related to the Unification Church.
In addition, the special prosecutor team searched the National Intelligence Service for the 'Myeongtaegyun Gate' investigation. The search and seizure were conducted to secure personnel data and the circumstances under which former Deputy Prosecutor Kim Sang-min went to the National Intelligence Service as a special advisor after failing in the 22nd general election primary last year. However, the special prosecutor team explained that no search and seizure were conducted on places other than the National Intelligence Service regarding the 'Myeongtaegyun Gate.'
