[Financial News] As the extreme heavy rain has entered a lull, Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) has decided to continue suspending train operations in some sections to ensure track safety.
KORAIL announced on the 18th, "With the continued rainfall, the ground of the tracks and slopes has weakened, and with more rain forecasted from the afternoon, we will maintain the suspension of operations in the relevant sections until thorough safety inspections are completed."
Currently, the sections where operations are suspended include the regular line of the Gyeongbu Line from Seoul to Daejeon, the regular train section from Dongdaegu to Busan, the Honam Line from Gwangju Songjeong to Mokpo (including KTX), the Gyeongjeon Line from Dongdaegu to Jinju (including KTX), the Jeolla Line from Iksan to Yeosu Expo, the Janghang Line from Cheonan to Iksan, the Seohae Line from Hongseong to Seohwaseong, and the Chungbuk Line from Osong to Jecheon.
KORAIL is conducting restoration work and facility safety inspections on these lines, and will closely monitor rainfall and weather changes to decide whether to resume operations.
Meanwhile, the metropolitan area, Donghae Line, Daegyeong Line electric trains, and the Gyeongbu High-Speed Line (KTX) are operating normally across all sections. The Honam Line from Yongsan to Gwangju Songjeong, the Gangneung Line from Seoul to Gangneung, the Jungang Line from Cheongnyangni to Bujeon, the Seohae Line from Daegok to Wonsi, the Daegu Line from Dongdaegu to Pohang, the Gyeongbuk Line from Gimcheon to Yeongju, and the Yeongdong Line from Yeongju to Donghae are also maintaining operations.
Meanwhile, KORAIL has been operating the Disaster Countermeasure Headquarters since 3 PM on the 16th, and train operation adjustments may be changed frequently depending on weather conditions and field conditions.
A KORAIL official urged, "As train operations are being suspended and delayed, please be sure to check the real-time operation status through the mobile app 'KORAIL Talk', the website, and the railway customer center before use."
