[Financial News] Recently, SGI Seoul Guarantee, which was attacked by ransomware, has restored its core computer system, and the Financial Supervisory Service announced on the 17th that it plans to prepare comprehensive countermeasures against cyber threats and system failures in the financial sector as soon as the cause of this incident is identified.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service, SGI Seoul Guarantee has currently restored its core computer system and resumed issuing guarantees from 10 a.m. the previous day.
The Financial Supervisory Service immediately launched an on-site inspection upon recognizing the security breach of SGI Seoul Guarantee on the 14th. The top priority is to normalize all operations of SGI Seoul Guarantee, and on-site inspections are ongoing.
The Financial Supervisory Service stated, "In relation to this incident, we are supporting the analysis of the cause and the restoration of the computer system in cooperation with the Financial Security Institute, while closely cooperating with SGI Seoul Guarantee to check the status of consumer damage and ensure the prompt resumption of services." Additionally, it explained that emergency notices have been disseminated to the entire financial sector to prevent the spread of similar security breaches.
The Financial Supervisory Service said, "As soon as the cause of this incident is identified, we plan to prepare comprehensive countermeasures against new types of cyber threats and system failures in consultation with the financial sector."
According to SGI Seoul Guarantee, all face-to-face and non-face-to-face channels, including nationwide branches, offices, websites, and mobile, are operating normally.
Guarantee issuance for lease loan guarantees, mortgage loans (MCI guarantees), and mobile device installment payments, which were delayed due to previous system failures, is also proceeding smoothly.
SGI Seoul Guarantee is currently operating a 'Damage Report Center'. It is receiving and consulting on cases of damage caused by system failures, and if the facts of the damage are confirmed, full compensation will be provided. However, it is expected that it will take more time to restore the entire system outside of the core systems related to customer services.
