SK Broadband announced on the 18th that it will start commercial service of the international submarine cable SJC2 (Southeast-Asia Japan Cable 2), which connects 7 Asian countries including Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
SJC2 is an international submarine cable with a total length of 10,500 km, connecting major digital hubs in 10 regions across 7 Asian countries, including Busan in Korea. Domestically, SK Broadband participated independently.
The latest transmission technology and system of SJC2 processes data much faster and more reliably compared to existing submarine cables. Its data processing capacity of 9 terabits per second (Tbps) allows 360,000 subscribers to simultaneously watch UHD quality (25Mbps) videos and download 281 full HD (4GB) movies in just one second.
SK Broadband has strengthened its fundamental competitiveness in managing the rapidly increasing internet traffic demand in the AI era by expanding the network infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region with the opening of SJC2. The company also explained that it has laid the foundation to become an Asian network hub by expanding its global business in international leased lines, data centers, big data, and cloud.
Ha Min-yong, head of SK Broadband AI DC Business Division, said, "With the commercialization of the SJC2 submarine cable, we expect to significantly enhance service stability and business scalability to meet various demands in the AI era," adding, "We will continue to do our best to secure future growth engines."
