Yoon Ho-jung, candidate for Minister of the Ministry of Interior and Safety, stated in his opening remarks at the confirmation hearing held at the National Assembly on the 18th, "I will fulfill the basic duty of protecting the safety of the people and take the lead in overcoming the crisis of people's livelihood and regions."
He also expressed that he should respond to the era's demand for a citizen-sovereign government while leading AI innovation across the government.
He continued, "If given the opportunity to work as the Minister of the Ministry of Interior and Safety, I will focus on achieving results that citizens can feel, based on my experience and efforts so far."
He first stated his position to fulfill the state's basic duty of protecting the lives and safety of the people.
Candidate Yoon emphasized, "I will do my utmost to minimize human and property damage caused by seasonal disasters, including the recent intensifying heatwaves and typhoons in the summer."
In particular, he added, "I will revise legislation such as the 'Basic Law on Life Safety' to implement citizens' safety rights, foster disaster safety industries and personnel, and promote strengthening scientific disaster response systems."
He also expressed his determination to comfort and remember the pain of the victims and bereaved families of social disasters who have endured harsh times for a long time, ensuring that no innocent citizens are sacrificed meaninglessly again.
He plans to enhance the vitality of the people's economy and actively respond to the crisis of local extinction.
He said, "I will reorganize the promotion system, including the National Autonomy Decentralization Council, so that the central and local governments can become true partners in national administration," adding, "To solve the era's task of local extinction, I will mobilize all policies and capabilities available to the Ministry of Interior and Safety, such as the Local Extinction Response Fund, support for areas with decreasing populations, and the Hometown Love Donation System."
Furthermore, he revealed his ambition to pursue fiscal decentralization again on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of local autonomy and to strengthen local legislative and administrative autonomy to achieve substantial local autonomy and balanced development led by the region.
He also expressed his view to focus his capabilities on realizing a competent and efficient 'AI Democratic Government' using AI.
He explained, "Based on the achievements and potential of our country, which has achieved the world's number one in e-government and digital government, I will do my best to make our country a leading nation in AI government as well," adding, "I will initiate public AI investment at the government level and sometimes lead public AI to the private sector to enhance the overall AI competitiveness of the country."
He then resolved, "The new government has responded to the call of the era to create a 'country where the people are the owners' and launched as a 'citizen-sovereign government,'" adding, "I will do my best to make the Ministry of Interior and Safety reborn as the 'Ministry of Happiness and Safety,' where everything it does leads to the happiness of the people, creating a government that walks alongside the people, not one that rules and controls them."
