Court "Obstructed official duties, bad nature of crime"
[Financial News] A teenage male who insulted and assaulted a police officer has been sentenced to a suspended prison term.
According to the legal community on the 18th, the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 9 (Judge Go So-yeong) sentenced Mr. A, who was charged with obstruction of official duties and insult, to six months in prison with a one-year suspension. Additionally, 40 hours of community service were ordered.
Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of insulting and assaulting the police who were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report that "a man and woman are fighting" in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, last October.
At that time, Mr. A insulted Officer B by saying "Is it enough to be a cop. F*** off" and pushed his chest area twice. It was also investigated that he assaulted Officer C, who belonged to the same precinct, during the process of being arrested as a flagrant offender.
The court stated, "The nature of the crime is very bad as it obstructed the official duties of police officers by using insults and violence," and "Despite having a record of juvenile protection measures for violent crimes, he did not reflect and committed the crime, and did not make sincere efforts to seek forgiveness from the victimized police officers," explaining the reasons for the sentencing.
