[Financial News] The special prosecutor team for Chae Sang-byeong (Lee Myung-hyun Special Prosecutor) is searching the home of former Marine Corps 1st Division Commander Lim Seong-geun.
The special prosecutor team announced on the morning of the 18th, "The search of former Division Commander Lim's home is underway." It is reported that searches are also being conducted on related witnesses, including Lim's home.
Former Division Commander Lim is charged with occupational negligence resulting in death for deploying troops in a flash flood search operation without providing life jackets, ropes, and other safety equipment during the flood damage recovery operation in Yecheon, Gyeongbuk, in July 2023, leading to the death of Corporal Chae.
He was also accused of occupational negligence resulting in injury by a former Marine Corps reservist who was swept away by the flash flood but was rescued.
Additionally, former Division Commander Lim is suspected of being involved in lobbying efforts by figures in the 'Stylish Marine' KakaoTalk group chat, including Lee Jong-ho, former CEO of Black Pearl Invest, a key figure in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case, to save him.
Former Division Commander Lim appeared as a suspect at the special prosecutor's office on the 2nd of this month for questioning. He reportedly refused to answer most questions related to the charge of occupational negligence resulting in death and only partially answered questions related to abuse of authority, false reporting, and rescue lobbying, while refusing to answer the rest. The mobile phone he submitted is currently being forensically analyzed by the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.
