[Financial News] The special prosecutor team led by Min Jung-gi, investigating the allegations against Kim Geon-hee, is conducting a raid on Unification Church facilities in Gapyeong and Seoul in connection with the 'Geonjin Beopsa solicitation allegations'.
The special prosecutor team sent prosecutors and investigators to the Unification Church headquarters in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong, and the Seoul headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 18th to secure documents and files on PCs.
The special prosecutor team is expected to delve into the allegations that the Unification Church made illicit solicitations to Kim through Jeon Seong-bae, known as Geonjin Beopsa.
Jeon is accused of receiving a diamond necklace and Chanel bag, allegedly for 'Kim's gift', and requests for church-related matters from Yoon Mo, the Unification Church's global head, around April to August 2022, and delivering them to Kim.
The solicitation content included support for the Unification Church's Mekong River development project in Cambodia, acquisition of YTN by the Unification Church, hosting the UN's 5th office in Korea, and invitations to the presidential inauguration.
Before the case was transferred to the special prosecutor team, Jeon admitted during the prosecution's investigation that he received these items but claimed he lost them all.
Yoon admitted to the prosecution that he made the solicitations but stated, "It was done with the approval of Han Hak-ja, the head of the Unification Church." The Unification Church maintains that Yoon's actions were personal deviations and not on behalf of the church.
