Yonhap News

[Financial News] Former President Yun Seok-yeol's detention review hearing, requested by the court claiming the detention by the special investigation team on rebellion and foreign affairs (Cho Eun-seok Special Investigation) is unjust, will be held today. Former President Yun is expected to attend in person to appeal that his health condition is not good.
Seoul Central District Court's 9-2 Criminal Division (Presiding Judges Ryu Chang-seong, Jeong Hye-won, Choi Bo-won) will open the detention review hearing for former President Yun at 10:15 AM on the 18th. The court will question the petitioner, former President Yun, and review evidence to determine the legality of the detention and the necessity of maintaining it.
Previously, on the 16th, former President Yun's legal team submitted a request for a detention review to the Seoul Central District Court. Former President Yun, who is charged with abuse of power under the Criminal Act and obstruction of special official duties under the Criminal Act, was detained on the 10th due to concerns about evidence destruction.
Former President Yun's legal team stated, "Apart from the substantive charges, it is an unavoidable decision to directly appeal to the court about the severely deteriorated health condition."
The legal team reported that former President Yun is in a state where both eating and exercising are difficult due to decreased energy. Although he is taking diabetes medication, his blood sugar levels remain in the 230-240 range, and he experiences shortness of breath just by walking 70-80 meters, indicating abnormalities throughout his body.
The legal team explained, "In this health condition, attending existing criminal trials or special investigation appearances is virtually impossible, so he decided to attend this hearing to directly explain his health condition," and "Former President Yun applied for the detention review to sincerely cooperate with the judicial process and decided to attend this hearing to directly explain his health condition."
Since being detained, former President Yun has refused the special investigation team's requests to appear, citing health reasons. In response, the special investigation team ordered forced attendance at Seoul Detention Center, but it failed three times.
