[Financial News] KOSPI closed higher due to net buying by institutions and foreigners.
According to the Korea Exchange on the 17th, KOSPI closed at 3192.29, up 5.91p (0.19%) from the previous day. KOSPI, which started at 3201.42, up 15.04p (0.47%) from the previous day, showed a slight decline due to net selling by institutions and foreigners in the morning, but turned upward as institutions and foreigners turned to net buying in the afternoon.
In the stock market, institutions and foreigners net bought 1928 billion won and 697 billion won, respectively, while individuals net sold 3704 billion won.
By industry, pharmaceuticals (4.23%), transportation equipment/parts (2.02%), and insurance (1.80%) were strong, while paper/wood (-0.75%), electrical/electronics (-0.75%), and machinery/equipment (-0.74%) were weak.
Among the top market cap stocks, Hanwha Aerospace (4.80%), Samsung Biologics (3.48%), and Samsung Electronics (2.94%) were strong, while SK Hynix (-8.61%), Naver (-2.40%), and Doosan Enerbility (-0.63%) were weak.
On this day, KOSDAQ closed at 818.27, up 6.04p (0.74%) from the previous day. Individuals bought 948 billion won, while foreigners and institutions sold 862 billion won and 1 billion won, respectively.
Ji-won Kim, a researcher at KB Securities, said, "It was a day characterized by the divergent stock prices of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix," adding, "Amid somewhat eased inflation concerns due to tariffs, the positive supply and demand situation and policy momentum are gradually raising the index level by repeating rapid rotational trading."
