[Financial News] The president of Binggrae, who was tried for assaulting two police officers while drunk, was fined again in the appeal trial.
The Seoul Western District Court Criminal Appeal Division 2-1 (Chief Judge Jeong Seong-gyun) sentenced Kim Dong-hwan, Binggrae president (42), to a fine of 5 million won, the same as the first trial, for charges of obstructing official duties.
President Kim was tried for assaulting two police officers who responded to a report after he got into an argument with a security guard while drunk at an apartment complex in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, last June.
The first trial court pointed out, "Considering the circumstances of the crime, it is hard to say that the responsibility is light," but sentenced a fine of 5 million won considering that Mr. Kim is reflecting and the victimized police officers appealed for leniency. The prosecution appealed, claiming the sentence was unfair, but the appellate court did not accept it.
On this day, the court stated, "There are incomprehensible parts regarding the defendant's obstruction of official duties, but there is no change in circumstances to overturn the original judgment, so the original judgment is maintained."
Mr. Kim is the third generation of the Binggrae owner family, joined Binggrae in 2014, was promoted to executive in January 2021, and became president in March last year.
