Joint Research Achievements with KCC and Cheongju University
[Financial News] Hyosung Heavy Industries announced on the 17th that it has developed a 'concrete durability enhancement technology' that reduces rebar corrosion inside concrete to increase building lifespan.
This technology increases the alkalinity of the concrete itself to enhance carbonation resistance and uses an external coating to prevent the penetration of moisture and carbon dioxide, forming a dual structure. Concrete carbonation is a phenomenon where carbon dioxide in the air penetrates inside and corrodes the rebar, which is considered a major cause of decreased building durability.
Hyosung Heavy Industries has been researching concrete internal reinforcement technology with Cheongju University and Dongnam Enterprise since 2023, and jointly developed external coating technology with KCC to complete this technology. The technology was also certified by the Korea Concrete Institute last month.
The new coating is 10 times more elastic than existing water-based products, making it effective in compensating for micro-cracks on exterior walls, and its salt resistance is 2 to 3 times better, allowing it to maintain performance in environments with high salinity, such as coastal areas.
Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to first apply this technology to Gwangju Gyeongan 'Harrington Square River Park' and expand it to major construction sites. Additionally, it plans to establish a dedicated quality management system based on on-site application data.
A representative from Hyosung Heavy Industries said, "The technology developed this time is a convergence technology that ensures the long-term lifespan of buildings," adding, "It will serve as a foundation to enhance the quality reliability of our premium residential brands, including Harrington Place."
Meanwhile, Hyosung Heavy Industries supplies various residential products nationwide through brands such as 'Harrington Place', 'Harrington Square', and 'Harrington Court'. In particular, it implements a comfortable and safe residential environment by introducing eco-friendly materials and smart home systems and has won the consumer brand award for seven consecutive years.
