[Financial News] The Special Prosecutor Team for Chae Sang-byeong (Special Prosecutor Lee Myung-hyun) is recalling former Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan for investigation on the 17th.
Special Prosecutor Jeong Min-young stated in a regular briefing that morning, "We have previously investigated former Commander Kim Gye-hwan once, but determined that additional verification is needed, so we are summoning him as a suspect for further investigation," adding, "We plan to comprehensively investigate the instructions and remarks made by former Commander Kim to Colonel Park Jeong-hoon, head of the Marine Corps Investigation Unit, and the testimony he gave as a witness at Colonel Park's first trial in February 2024." Former Commander Kim was previously summoned for investigation on the 7th.
Special Prosecutor Jeong added, "While continuing the investigation, we have verified the situation during the meeting on July 31, when the rage theory emerged, and have also obtained statements from military officials," explaining that "this is to reconfirm former Commander Kim's stance based on that information." Additionally, he noted, "The testimony given by former Commander Kim as a witness at Colonel Park's first trial has been reported as perjury, so we are also confirming his stance on that matter."
The Special Prosecutor Team announced that they are summoning former Presidential Office Diplomatic Secretary Lee Chung-myeon for the second time as a reference from the morning of that day. Former Secretary Lee was an attendee at the Senior Secretary Meeting on July 31, 2023, when former President Yoon Seok-yeol's rage theory was raised. Special Prosecutor Jeong stated, "We have additional information related to the situation during the meeting, so we are conducting another investigation with former Secretary Lee."
Regarding Colonel Park Jeong-hoon, who was investigated as a reference the previous day, it was explained, "We determined it necessary to confirm whether there have been any changes in his previously stated positions and testimonies, and whether there is any additional information to disclose, so we summoned him as a reference for investigation."
Colonel Park is known for leading the initial investigation into the Chae Sang-byeong case and publicly exposing the circumstances of investigative pressure from the Presidential Office and the Ministry of National Defense. During the investigation process by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), he also testified that former President Yoon Seok-yeol's rage was the background for the investigative pressure.
Meanwhile, former Commander Kim appeared at the Special Prosecutor's office around 10:30 a.m. that day. He entered the investigation room without answering any questions from the press, such as "Do you really not remember former President Yoon's rage?" and "What do you think about the National Security Office meeting attendees acknowledging the rage?"
