[Financial News] Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, who was brought to trial on charges of unfair merger and accounting fraud, has been acquitted.
The Supreme Court's 3rd Division (Presiding Judge Oh Seok-jun) confirmed the lower court's ruling that acquitted Chairman Lee, who was indicted on charges of violating the Capital Market and Financial Investment Services Act, on the 17th.
It has been 4 years and 10 months since Chairman Lee was brought to trial in September 2020, and about 5 months since the second trial ruling.
Chairman Lee was brought to trial on charges of illegally intervening in the merger process of Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries in 2015 to succeed management rights and strengthen group control.
Last year, the first trial acquitted all 19 charges, and in February this year, the appellate court also acquitted him.
