[Financial News] The rebellion and foreign affairs special prosecutor team (Cho Eun-seok Special Prosecutor) is conducting a raid on former Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min and others to investigate the power and water cut-off allegations.
The rebellion special prosecutor team began raiding seven locations, including the former minister's residence, the Fire Department, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety Sejong Government Complex, and the Seoul Government Complex, from around 9 a.m. on the 17th.
The former minister is suspected of having instructed the Fire Department to cut off power and water to some media outlets, including MBC and Hankyoreh, during the emergency martial law on December 3 last year. He is also suspected of having pre-planned the emergency martial law with former Presidential Office Chief of Staff Kim Joo-hyun and former Minister of Justice Park Sung-jae at the safe house in Samcheong-dong on the day of martial law.
Fire Department Chief Heo Seok-gon testified in the National Assembly that "he received a call from the former minister instructing cooperation if the Police Department requested a power and water cut-off."
The special prosecutor team plans to secure data on whether there was a martial law photo simulation and whether the power and water cut-off orders were given through the raid on the former minister's residence. Since the Police Emergency Martial Law Special Investigation Team raided the former minister's residence last February, the special prosecutor team is expected to secure additional data beyond what was transferred from the police. A large amount of cash bundles were found during the police raid, and the special prosecutor team is also expected to look into this. The special prosecutor team will raid the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, where the former minister worked, and the Fire Department, suspected of receiving instructions, to investigate the authenticity of the former minister's orders.
The former minister's side rebutted, "We were not aware of the related contents during the raid at the time, and the amount of cash reportedly found in the bag differs from what was reported by the media."
