Likely to verify various suspicion materials including pre-meditation of martial law
[Financial News] The Special Prosecutor's Office for Insurrection and Foreign Affairs (Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok) is conducting a raid on former Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, who is under suspicion for ordering power and water cuts.
The special prosecutor's team has been conducting a raid on the former minister's home in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, since around 9 a.m. on the 17th.
The former minister is suspected of having ordered power and water cuts to the Fire Department, MBC, and Hankyoreh, among other media outlets, during the martial law on December 3 last year. He is also suspected of having pre-meditated martial law with former Presidential Office Chief of Civil Affairs Kim Joo-hyun and former Minister of Justice Park Sung-jae at a safe house in Samcheong-dong on the day of the martial law.
The special prosecutor's team plans to secure materials on whether there was a pre-meditation of martial law and whether orders for power and water cuts were given through the raid on the former minister's home. Since the police's Special Investigation Unit for Martial Law conducted a raid on the former minister's home last February, the special prosecutor's team is expected to secure additional materials beyond those handed over by the police. A large amount of cash bundles was found during the police raid, and the special prosecutor's team is also expected to look into this.
