Gyeonggi and Gangwon Issued 'Warning'
[Financial News] The Korea Forest Service announced that as of 6:30 AM on the 17th, the landslide alert level for the regions of Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam has been raised to 'Severe'. The alert level for Gyeonggi and Gangwon regions has been raised to 'Warning'. The landslide alert is issued in stages according to risk levels: 'Attention'→'Caution'→'Warning'→'Severe'.
Currently, a heavy rain advisory is in effect for the central region and the northwestern part of Jeonbuk, with very heavy rain of 20~50mm per hour (more than 80mm on the southern coast of Chungnam) falling mainly in the central region. In particular, the Chungcheong area is forecasted to receive 50∼150mm of rain until the 17th, with some areas expecting more than 180mm.
Accordingly, the Korea Forest Service has raised the landslide alert level for these areas, taking into account the rainfall forecast and the cumulative rainfall so far.
Im Sang-seop, the head of the Korea Forest Service, stated, "There has been a lot of preceding rainfall centered around the Chungcheong area overnight, and with heavy rain forecasted mainly in the central region, it is important to pay attention to emergency disaster messages and village broadcasts," adding, "Please refrain from outdoor activities as much as possible and evacuate to designated shelters such as village halls if you live in areas adjacent to forests when evacuation orders are issued."
