Passport invalidation measures to be carried out on the 17th
[Financial News] The court has issued an arrest warrant for Kim Geon-hee's 'butler'.
The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Kim, the 'butler', on the 16th, stating, "There is a concern that the suspect may not comply with the investigation agency's request for appearance without a legitimate reason."
The Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. Kim, the key suspect in the 'Butler Gate', the day before. Moon Hong-joo, Assistant Special Prosecutor, explained, "Mr. Kim left for Vietnam in April and sent his children to Vietnam on the 1st. So far, neither he nor his wife has made any contact with the special prosecutor, indicating no intention of voluntary return or appearance," and added, "Given the situation, passport invalidation measures are inevitable, and if the arrest warrant is issued, we will immediately proceed with passport invalidation measures."
The special prosecutor team plans to initiate passport invalidation measures through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 17th. With the issuance of the arrest warrant for Mr. Kim, the special prosecutor team's investigation into the 'Butler Gate' is expected to accelerate. The special prosecutor team, having threatened to proceed with passport invalidation measures immediately after the issuance of the arrest warrant, is expected to focus on Mr. Kim's extradition through immediate passport invalidation measures.
If Mr. Kim returns to Korea, the special prosecutor is expected to proceed with a summons investigation and secure custody, including detention. As Mr. Kim is a key suspect deeply involved in various allegations against Mrs. Kim, including the Kobana Content bribery allegations, the special prosecutor team is expected to speed up the investigation after securing Mr. Kim's custody.
