[Financial News] Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, has expressed his intention to supply another high-spec AI chip following the resumption of supply of the AI (Artificial Intelligence) chip 'H20' for export to China. As a result, there are expectations that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix could benefit as the demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) increases.
According to foreign media on the 16th, CEO Huang attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo in Beijing and told reporters, "H20 is still amazingly good, but we will sell whatever is allowed to be sold in China in the coming years," adding, "I hope to supply more advanced chips to China."
The news came the day after the U.S. government approved the export of H20 to China, hinting at the possibility of supplying new AI chips. Currently, H20 is the only AI chip that NVIDIA can legally sell in China, drawing attention.
Previously, the Donald Trump administration in the U.S. restricted the export of H20 as part of sanctions against China in April, causing losses for NVIDIA. However, the U.S. government has now allowed the sale of H20 again, and CEO Huang hinted at launching new AI chips for supply to China beyond H20.
For now, the focus will be on clearing the H20 inventory, estimated at $4.5 billion, but if the demand for AI chips in China increases and the new chip mentioned by CEO Huang is released, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are expected to benefit. This is due to the high profitability of the latest product, HBM3E.
According to market research firm TrendForce, most of the H20 shipped last year was equipped with HBM3 (4th generation) 8-layer products, and HBM3E (5th generation) 8-layer installation is being considered this year. The forecast for the proportion of foreign AI chip procurement in China has also been adjusted upward from 42% to 49%. TrendForce stated, "The lifting of the export restriction on H20 to China will promote the recovery of demand from AI and cloud service providers (CSPs) in China," and "HBM demand is also expected to rise in tandem."
There is also interest in whether NVIDIA will launch the low-power graphics processing unit (GPU) RTX Pro 6000 (B40) targeting the Chinese market. The latest graphics memory 'GDDR7' installed in this GPU is dominated by Samsung Electronics in market share, which could benefit. Previously, CEO Huang visited the Samsung Electronics booth at 'GTC 2025' held in the U.S. last March and left a handwritten signature on GDDR7.
