[Financial News] The special prosecutor team of Kim Geon-hee (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) continues the search and seizure regarding the personnel solicitation and state intervention suspicions of Jeon Seong-bae, known as Geonjin Beopsa.
Oh Jeong-hee, the assistant special prosecutor, stated on the 16th, "We conducted a search and seizure until 10 PM the previous day at 13 locations including residences and offices of those involved in the Geonjin Beopsa suspicion case," adding, "Today, we are executing search and seizure warrants for some unfinished matters from the previous day."
The special prosecutor team is conducting searches at two locations today; one location requires additional forensic work due to the large volume of forensic data, and the other location is being searched to secure additional items.
The previous day, the special prosecutor team conducted searches at 13 locations including the temple of Jeon, located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Jeon's attorney, Oh Eul-seop, former head of the network headquarters of the People Power Party's election campaign headquarters, and Park Chang-wook, a member of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council of the People Power Party. Jeon is suspected of receiving gifts such as a diamond necklace and a Chanel bag from the Unification Church for Kim Geon-hee's gifts and for soliciting for church issues, and then delivering them to Mrs. Kim. He is also suspected of soliciting personnel appointments to influential political figures. Jeon claims in the prosecution's investigation that he received the items but lost them all.
The special prosecutor believes Jeon used gifts as a medium to lobby Mrs. Kim for various personnel solicitations and issue resolutions and is accelerating the investigation.
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor plans to proceed with the summons investigation of those involved in the 'Butler Gate' as scheduled on the 17th. However, Jo Hyun-sang, Chairman of HS Hyosung, who was scheduled for an overseas trip, will be summoned on the 21st, and Kim Beom-soo, the founder of Kakao, is still coordinating the schedule with the special prosecutor. The special prosecutor is expected to inquire about △the investment background and process of Be My Car (IMS Mobility), the company of 'Butler' Kim △whether Mrs. Kim was involved △whether there were solicitations for resolving current issues.
The second summons for the remaining companies that invested in IMS is scheduled for next week. Assistant Special Prosecutor Oh explained, "The second summons is scheduled for next week."
