Following Park Jeong-hoon, Kang Ui-gu is summoned for investigation
[Financial News] The Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor team (Special Prosecutor Lee Myung-hyun) summoned former Presidential Secretary Kang Ui-gu, known as the confidant of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, to investigate the so-called 'VIP Fury' incident.
Former Secretary Kang appeared at the special prosecutor's office in Seocho-dong, Seoul, at around 2 PM on the 16th as a reference.
He headed to the special prosecutor's office without answering reporters' questions such as "Have you heard that former President Yoon was furious during a meeting?", "Did former President Yoon give any instructions regarding the initial investigation results?", and "Why did you have multiple calls with former Defense Secretary Im Gi-hoon after the chief secretary meeting?".
Former Secretary Kang, a former prosecutor, was a close aide to former President Yoon when he was the Prosecutor General. After Yoon was elected President, Kang moved to the Presidential Office after resigning from the prosecution.
Although Kang did not attend the foreign and security chief secretary meeting presided over by the President on July 31, 2023, when the 'VIP Fury' was first raised, it became known that he had several calls with former Secretary Im on that day. Former Secretary Im is suspected of being the one who conveyed to former Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan that former President Yoon was furious during the meeting.
Marine Corps Investigation Team Leader (Colonel) Park Jeong-hoon is also being investigated as a reference by the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor team today.
Colonel Park, upon appearing at the special prosecutor's office, responded to reporters' questions about former National Security Office First Deputy Director Kim Tae-hyo changing his statement to acknowledge former President Yoon's fury, saying, "I believe the truth will eventually be revealed, and justice will prevail."
He emphasized, "Since the part where the fury began has been proven as fact rather than rumor, I believe everything will be properly revealed and settled."
The 'VIP Fury' refers to the suspicion that former President Yoon, upon receiving the initial investigation results of the Marine Corps investigation team regarding the Chae Sang-byeong death case during a presidential office meeting on July 31, 2023, at 11 AM, expressed anger, saying, "If we punish the division commander for this, who would want to be a division commander?", and subsequently deferred the police transfer and altered the investigation results of the Marine Corps investigation team.
