The special prosecutor team announced on the 16th through a press release that they had instructed the Seoul Detention Center the previous night to bring former President Yoon to the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, where the special prosecutor's office is located, by 2 PM that day.
In response, the Seoul Detention Center has requested personnel dispatch to the special prosecutor. The Ministry of Justice explained, "The Seoul Detention Center sent an official document requesting cooperation to send a special prosecutor or investigator for lawful execution of the summons today morning."
The special prosecutor team has also imposed a measure prohibiting external visits to former President Yoon, except by family and lawyers.
Park Ji-young, Deputy Special Prosecutor for Rebellion, stated in a press briefing that day, "We instructed the head of the Seoul Detention Center to prohibit suspect visits to former President Yoon at around 4:13 PM the previous day," adding, "It was handled according to the standard applied to general suspects under the access prohibition criteria."
As a result, former President Yoon will not be able to meet with anyone other than family and lawyers until the special prosecutor's indictment from July 15.
Former President Yoon was scheduled to meet with lawyer Yoon Gap-geun and former U.S. State Department International Criminal Justice Ambassador Moss Tan at the Seoul Detention Center at 4:20 PM that day, but the meeting was canceled due to the special prosecutor's measures. Former Ambassador Moss Tan is known for raising allegations of election fraud during the 21st presidential election.
The special prosecutor team is also continuing with forced investigations. Deputy Special Prosecutor Park stated, "Since 7 AM, we are currently conducting a search and seizure at eight locations, including the residence of former National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong, related to evidence destruction after the rebellion." Former Director Cho is suspected of being involved in the remote deletion of classified phone information of former President Yoon, former First Deputy Director of National Intelligence Service Hong Jang-won, and others after the martial law.
The special prosecutor team is conducting the search and seizure by excluding items previously seized from former Director Cho's residence by the late Marine Special Prosecutor (Special Prosecutor Lee Myung-hyun) on the 11th and separately receiving necessary items from the late Sergeant Chae Special Prosecutor. The special prosecutor is also looking into former Director Cho's alleged abuse of authority for reportedly demanding the resignation of former Deputy Director Hong.
