[Financial News] AX (Artificial Intelligence Transformation) specialist company LG CNS will embark on the construction of an insect smart factory farm based on manufacturing AX technology. The plan is to digitize and automate the production process of the insect industry, which is emerging as a future growth climate tech sector.
LG CNS announced that it participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the insect industry hub complex hosted by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province on the 16th, officially launching the construction project of the insect smart factory farm. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, Yuk Dong-han, Mayor of Chuncheon City, and other key executives including Kim Hong-geun, Vice President of LG CNS.
The insect industry hub complex to be built in Chuncheon, Gangwon, will be an advanced smart factory farm capable of mass-producing insects such as mealworms. LG CNS will be responsible for △AX-based production operation management and integrated control system △AI growth management system △automation of insect breeding, feed manufacturing, and environmental control facilities.
Having established AI-based intelligent smart factories in various industrial fields such as electronics, batteries, and pharmaceuticals, LG CNS will apply accumulated manufacturing AX technology, including quality selection and precise control, to this insect production process. The plan is to establish the insect smart factory farm by the end of this year, creating a large-scale automated mass production system capable of producing approximately 700 tons of mealworms annually.
LG CNS will establish an optimal insect production system with an AX-based production operation management and integrated control system. By collecting and analyzing data from all production processes such as breeding, inspection, transportation, and environmental facilities in real-time, it will derive optimal growth environments and operating conditions, automating production processes at each breeding stage to implement an uninterrupted smart factory farm. The entire insect production cycle will be integrated into a single system to enhance operational efficiency.
LG CNS plans to maximize the quality and production volume of insects with an AI growth management system. By monitoring the growth stages of insects with vision AI technology, it will calculate the optimal shipping time and analyze the color and movement of insects in real-time to identify defective individuals.
LG CNS, together with Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, plans to present a 'K-Insect Standard Model' leading the future insect industry through this project. The insect breeding platform will be fully localized, and all manufacturing reference information such as codes, terms, and indicators will be integrated and managed as standards to allow flexible expansion when establishing new factories in the future.
With this project, LG CNS has acquired the innovation capability of smart farms encompassing not only plants but also insects. Previously, LG CNS had built an intelligent platform for the 'Advanced Unmanned Automated Agricultural Production Demonstration Complex' in Naju, Jeonnam, covering an area of 160,000 pyeong.
Kim Hong-geun, Vice President of LG CNS, said, "By integrating LG CNS's manufacturing AX innovation capabilities into the insect industry, we will provide completely differentiated customer value in terms of productivity and quality level," adding, "We will contribute to making this insect smart factory farm a lighthouse factory for the future K-Insect industry."
