[Financial News] KT announced on the 16th that it will supply internet protocol (IP) based set-top boxes to KT Skylife and KT HCN to expand group media synergy.
With this supply, Skylife and HCN will be able to strengthen their service competitiveness and expand their business areas based on IP-based technology transition. Additionally, both companies have launched a premium broadcasting service 'ipit TV' that applies IP transmission methods.
The service is characterized by providing a level of service equivalent to internet TV (IPTV) at a reasonable price. ipit TV currently offers online video service (OTT) content, artificial intelligence (AI) recommendation and search, and mobile continuation viewing provided by Genie TV. Existing subscribers of both companies can apply for ipit TV at each company's customer center or store to replace the set-top box and use IPTV-level services.
Choi Gwang-cheol, head of KT IPTV Business Division, said, "KT has enhanced the quality competitiveness of the overall media service by strengthening media platform cooperation between group companies based on technological neutrality."
