[Financial News] Hyundai Engineering & Construction is accelerating the expansion of the private-centered renewable energy PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) market.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction recently announced on the 16th that it has signed a business agreement for 'Solar Power Plant PPA Supply Expansion' with the Korea Solar Power Generation Business Association (KSPGBA) and Good News Energy. According to the agreement, KSPGBA will recruit member companies, Good News Energy will handle digital platform-based contracts, settlements, and monitoring, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction will support demand linkage, operation, and financial procurement.
Good News Energy is a subsidiary of the energy IT company Sixty Hertz, operating the country's first RE100 dedicated renewable energy trading platform. This collaboration is expected to expand the private-led PPA ecosystem, allowing participation from small and medium-sized businesses.
In addition, Hyundai Engineering & Construction is also pursuing strategic partnerships with Top Solar, one of the leading solar EPC companies in Korea, to collaborate across the entire spectrum of renewable energy, including business development, operation management (O&M), and investment.
A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official said, "We are working to expand the base of renewable energy suppliers from global operators to small-scale operators through the KSPGBA agreement," adding, "We will contribute to diversifying the domestic PPA market and discovering business models through the expansion of competitive alliances."
Meanwhile, since entering the power brokerage business in 2023, Hyundai Engineering & Construction has been promoting PPA contracts with a cumulative scale of 1GW. In particular, they are working with Sixty Hertz to develop an automated power trading IT platform and integrated generation (VPP) service, and have also started the 'Energy Self-Sufficiency Infrastructure Construction and Operation Project' in Incheon Namdong Industrial Complex. Hyundai Engineering & Construction plans to further expand the private-centered voluntary PPA ecosystem, as well as achieve RE100 for national energy advancement.
